Candy Coated Pretzels & Marshmallow Pops

Earlier this week I was looking for a very simple treat to make for Toys for Tots at the Family Life Restoration Center so I decided on candy coated pretzels and marshmallow pops.

My task for the event was to set up and replenish the refreshment table for the 300+ parents and children we were expecting to pick up toys and take pictures with Santa.  The center provided most of the snacks and I decided to make 60 marshmallow pops and 60 candy coated pretzels.

If you’re interested in making these little treats you only need a few ingredients:

  1. pretzels and/or marshmallows
  2. candy melts or almond bark
  3. sprinkles
  4. lollipop sticks (for marshmallow pops)
  5. styrofoam block (for marshmallow pops)

Candy melts can be purchased at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Almond bark can be found at most grocery stores, especially during the holidays.  Candy melts come in a variety of colors.    Almond bark is either white (vanilla flavored) or brown (chocolate flavored).  Walmart and Kroger have almond bark year round.  They can be colored with an oil based or powdered food coloring made for candy coatings.  Do not use gel or the liquid food coloring found in grocery stores.  Your candy coating will seize and become unusable.

Our refreshment table for the children was replenished too many times to count, but only the early birds got the  marshmallow pops and candy coated pretzels.
